Thoughts

Probably not what the family would want to hear but I read about the passing of Dr. Edelman in the UNC Alumni magazine. I remember when my father passed in 1973 I received a note from my high school Latin Class expressing their sorrow of my dad's death...the letter was written by Becky. I now return the letter in expressong my sorrow to hear about your father's passing..Gary

What a Renaissance man Irv was! I began my teaching career (of 38 years) with him at Garinger. He was such a man of wisdom. I learned so much from him.(I also was/am a history teacher.) He was so kind to me-in my ignorance of early teaching. I remember the series he taped on Alex de Tocqueville. He was so excited about that man. My friend, Barbara Allen-also new-and I remember the sweet notes Ruth stuck in his lunch bag; also the half grapefruit sections cut and a cherry in the middle.(Perhaps it was the fact that Barbara and I were still single that these were impressive!) He was so very proud of all of you. We heard lots of stories about you growing up. He dictated notes to me via caregiver almost until his death, but he always signed them. I, as you, will miss him. But the wonderful memory of him will always be with me. I am so grateful for his friendship. Thanks for the opportunity to let me share this with you. Have a good life, Jessi Seawright Ogburn
